Rosie Stancer Mars Solo to The North Pole

Expedition Training

Preparation

Rosie is a polar professional of ten years’ standing. She is undertaking intensive pre-expedition and skills training to prepare herself physically and mentally for the challenge. Her support team consists of experts in every aspect of expedition organisation and logistics. Proper preparation
minimises the risk potential and maximises her chances of success.

Physical training

Building strength, stamina and aerobic fitness through a range of exercises including pulling tyres, weight-liftng and circuits. She is working with both a personal trainer and the British Army.

Open water training

Sea, rapid river and pool training to increase swimming efficiency. Rosie will be trained to swim in her immersion suit and learn how to move in water with her sledge attached.

Firearms training

Rosie will be trained to accurately and efficiently hit moving targets in order to defend herself against polar bears. She will have limited ammunition while on the ice.

“Far from help” medical training
Advanced first aid, including coping with burns, cold-related injuries and performing basic dental repairs.

Equipment testing and in situ training

Training expedition in the high arctic April 2006. Acclimatisation and intensive ice-training in Nunavut, Canada for 10 days prior to departure.
